Quotes from `Abdu'l-Bahá

The essential purpose of Faith and Belief is to ennoble the inner being of man with the outpourings of grace from on high.

The Bahá'í Magazine - Star of the West, September 1925, Vol. 16 No. 6, page 539

If love and agreement are manifest in a single family, that family will advance, become illumined and spiritual; but if enmity and hatred exist within it destruction and dispersion are inevitable. This is likewise true of a city.   If those who dwell within it manifest a spirit of accord and fellowship it will progress steadily and human conditions become brighter, whereas through enmity and strife it will be degraded and its inhabitants scattered.   In the same way the people of a nation develop and advance toward civilization and enlightenment through love and accord, and are disintegrated by war and strife.   Finally, this is true of humanity itself in the aggregate.   When love is realized and the ideal spiritual bonds unite the hearts of men, the whole human race will be uplifted, the world will continually grow more spiritual and radiant and the happiness and tranquillity of mankind be immeasurable increased.   Warfare and strife will be uprooted, disagreement and dissension pass away and Universal Peace unite the nations and peoples of the world.

He is a true Bahá'í who strives by day and by night to progress and advance along the path of human endeavor, whose most cherished desire is so to live and act as to enrich and illuminate the world, whose source of inspiration is the essence of divine virtue, whose aim in life is so to conduct himself as to be the cause of infinite progress.   Only when he attains unto such perfect gifts can it be said of him that he is a true Bahá'í.   For in this holy dispensation - the crowning glory of bygone ages and cycles - true faith is no mere acknowledgment of the Unity of God, but rather the living of a life that will manifest all the perfections and virtues implied in such belief.

The Bahá'í Magazine - Star of the West, April 1925, Vol. 16 No. 1, page 409

"Every age requires a central impetus or movement.   In this age, the boundaries of terrestrial things have extended; minds have taken on a broader range of vision; realities have been unfolded and the secrets of being have been brought into the realm of visibility."

"As this is the cycle of sciences, there must needs be new teachings, a new revelation is required and a new life wanted.    The minds and hearts refute the veracity of ancient opinions.    New ideas are called for and new principles are urgently demanded which may fill the requirements of this age, be as the spirit of this century and as the life of the period."

"It is impossible to realize the grandeur and spiritual significance of these peerless days!   God is establishing in the hearts of men His Kingdom of peace and good-will.   Blessed are those who have taken part in this glorious work."

The Bahá'í Magazine - Star of the West, May 1925, Vol. 16 No. 2, page 377

Through the bounty and favor of God think nothing difficult or impossible. God is so bountiful that He brings fire out from the stone; inflammable matter jets out from the interior of the earth; out of the black dust of the soil He produces beautiful flowers; from the bottom of the ocean He brings pearls and corals. When the Lifht of His favor is shed upon us the darkness is fled.

Trust in the favor of God.   Look not at your own capacities, for the divine bestowal can transform a drop into an ocean; it can make a tiny seed a lofty tree.   Verily divine bestowals are like the sea and we are like the fishes in that sea.   The fishes must not look at themselves; they must behold the ocean which is vast and wonderful.   Provision for the sustenance of all is in this ocean, therefore the divine bounties encompass all and love eternal shines upon all.

O dumb speak!

O dead arise!
