Celithemis eponina
"Halloween Pennant"
Celithemis eponina – "Halloween Pennant" of the Family Libellulidae.
This beautiful dragonfly is marked with yellow along its dark rust-red
body, with wings of orange marked with red crossbands and spots. A common
eastern pond species in North America, it is found here in New Mexico up
to 8,000 feet in elevation. The nymphs are found living among the bases
of submerged aquatic vegetation along the shallow edges of ponds and lakes.
This species has generally been found only in the eastern part of the state
in the drainage systems of the Cimarron, Canadian, and Pecos Rivers.
