Libellula comanche
"Commanche Skimmer"
Libellula comanche – "Comanche Skimmer" of the Family Libellulidae, a southwestern species with bicolored stigma. This skimmer has a yellow thorax and a pale brown abdomen with a thick yellow stripe down each side. This species turns bluish-white with age. The adults are often seen perching on green riparian vegetation or flying over the surface of the water. The nymphs inhabit the thick mud on the bottom of ponds and stream pools. In New Mexico, this dragonfly is found along the Pecos River drainage, at sinkholes, and around the more freshwater streams.
