Libellula saturata
"Flame Skimmer" or "Firecracker
Skimmer"
Libellula saturata – "Firecracker Skimmer," or "Flame
Skimmer," of the Family Libellulidae, a bright orange-red skimmer
with flame-red coloration extending out onto the wings. This skimmer is
generally found around slow moving streams and small ponds with dense emergent
vegetation. The nymphs are found living in the thick, black mud of pond
bottoms and the still water of small streams. Found in most counties in
New Mexico, the Firecracker Skimmer is the most unforgettable southwestern
species because of its striking coloration.
