Pantala hymenaea
"Spotted-wing Glider"
Pantala hymenaea – "Spot-winged Glider" of the Family Libellulidae. This large, brownish-red dragonfly is one of two species in this genus, and they both occur in North America. The abdomen is short and stout. This strong-flying species possesses a large brown spot in each hind wing. The nymphs are greenish and patterned with brown. Pantala hymenaea is widely distributed throughout North America. It is found in a wide range of habitats, especially open, still waters, in New Mexico.
