"Black Saddlebags"
Tramea lacerata – "Black Saddlebags" of the Family Libellulidae, a black species with a broad, black band at the base of the hind wings. The pattern and location of these black bands resemble saddlebags. This dragonfly possesses a black abdomen with dorsal, yellow spots at maturity. The nymphs prefer to live among green aquatic vegetation and on floating algae masses. In North America, this species is widely distributed. It is found along ponds, sinkholes, impoundments, and mountain streams in New Mexico.
