Message: I never really got to know my dad because he died from alcoholism when I was 10yrs old.It was a problem he didn't have when he left for Korea, but brought it back home with him.His name was Sargeant Alvin "Al" Shea and I know he was in an armoured division during his time there.I know my dad was well liked by most everyone that knew him as a friend.I would love to hear from someone that knew him during the time he spent in Korea. As I grow older I find that I want to know him better as the person he was before he became the person I knew.I feel that his drinking problem was a casualty of war now and I am proud that my dad served his country in time of need.Unfortunately it cost him his ability to enjoy a long life and my ability to ever really get to know my dad.I know I may not hear from anyone who knew him but just having an outside shot at it is well worth it to me.I hope to hear from someone soon : )
God Bless the Korean War Vets(and all veterans of war)you are truly heros to me........Kenny Shea

Message: Kenny,
Sory for your loss. My dad served in 50 & 51 as a Master Sergeant in a Mortar Platoon, but also performed "covert actions". We did not learn of this until a few years ago.
When you are ready I will tell you of some of the things he had to do. It is a wonder he is normal. He is now 80 and lives in Terry, Mississippi. He served w/ the 8th Cav., 2nd Bat., "H" Co., 1st Cav. Div.
I have many stories to tell. My dad drank alot also, but controlled it. He still has the "killer eyes" that a hardened combat soldier aquires. Our family is in the construction business in Mississippi and he was well known for not letting anyone near him.
Maybe I can help you understand. I feel for you.

Message: Kenny,
Your dad had probably had PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Theres a lot of info now about PTSD, but during your dads time no one knew about any of that stuff. If you are interested do a goggle search on PTSD.
Semper Fi,
Terry
