Can anyone tell me about a unique side arm available to F-86 air crews? It is an over-under shotgun/rifle that was stored next to the pilot's seat. One barrel shot 410 shotgun shells, the other shot 22 rifle bullets. The weapon also folded in half for storage on the jet. I have come across one and can find no information regarding its origin or intended use. Thank you. Kevin

Here`s a guess- sounds like a "survival weapon" i.e. used to live off the land if neccessary. The sidearm would be a pistol - .45 or so not a shoulder fired weapon.
