There is an online copy of the summary of the investigation into the deaths of the POW's on Hill 303. The following is the link. Lt Cecil Newman's name is mentioned there.

I Know the exact circumstances of 2LT Cecil Newman's death and the exact location where his body was found at the base of Hill 303. I also now have contact with Lt Jack Hudspeth's family whom Lt Newman escaped with from the North Koreans. Please email me.

My dad, Maser Sergeant Ralph McPhail was captured in the early days of the war but he and another NCO escaped. Hill 303 sounds familiar. Will ask him about it. He lives in Terry, Mississippi and is now 80.

Dear Mr Reed,
It may be possible my uncle knew him and wrote about him in his diary, but I'm not sure.
He wrote that he had been in Korea since August and gave a detailed account of how he another sergeant and a Lieutenant tried to escape but were captured. The Lieutenant was exicuted. I believe it was in the first few days of November 1950. In his diary he wrote how the three of them made a promise to see the others folks should one or the other not make it. I would like very much to keep that promise on my uncles behalf should Lt.Cecil Newman be the same Lieutenant my uncle fought with. If he is,any and all information I have I will share with you. If not God Bless and Guide You On Your Journey. Your friend Pete Vanderwarker. turtle05@adelphia.net
