Message: Dear Bert,
I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank you for your service to our country. Your sacrifice and those that served with you are not taken lightly nor taken for granted. May God Bless each and every one of our soldiers, those that returned to us and those that did not and had made the ultimate sacrifice for each and every one of us. We often hear that freedom is not free but until we acknowledge the true cost we do not truly understands it’s worth.
It is my hope that you receive this letter and I would like to convey to you how great an honor it is for me to have the privilege to speak to one of our soldiers.
Thank you again Bert and may God Bless You and All that served our Country in the Korean War.

Hi Pete,
Yes, I did three combat tours in Korea: two with Navy Amphibious forces and one as an Air Force Tech Rep.

You are right about the Chinese and North Koreans staging photos in the Camps to mislead the world about the treatment of POWs. On my site I have the most blatant example, the 1952 POW "Olympics"

I hope your uncle made it back to the states okay, and is doing well today. My family's best regards to him and his family. Bert

Message: Thank you Bert. I've seen the "Propaganda Photos" taken by Mr. Wang Nai-qing. I have sent several letters to him, care of Yang Ningning, asking him to remove them. In testamonies taken from survivors of these P.O.W. camps. These pictures were all "Staged" and is in no way a true reflection of their actual treatment. My uncle was a P.O.W. He was captured after the 1st Cav. 8th Reg. was over run at Unsan. Marched North to 5 then sent up the Yalu to 4. Were you in the Korean War Bert ? Thanks.

Message: Camp 4 was one of 5 POW camps run by the CCF at Pyoktong, on the Yalu on the NW border between China and Korea. http://www.rt66.com/~korteng/SmallArms/b292.htm
There are pictures of these camps taken by a Chinese officer in 51-53 online:
http://www.angelfire.com/art2/koreanwar_pow/Korean_War_POW_photos.html
There were about 5,000 prisoners in these camps, and early-on they were far more difficult to survive than shown in the above pictures. At that time, many of these troops had been captured at Unsan from 1st Cav units.
hth, Bert
