I've just discovered this site. The Korean war is definitely the forgotten war!
My father served as a reinforcement from the KSLI (then in Hong Kong) to the Middlesex Regiment when it was deployed to Korea in August 1950. When the KSLI releived them in May 1951 he got posted back to the KSLI and did another 17 months! He always spoke of his time out of the line and had some good memories and stories of the aussies and the yanks... Spoke well of the Cav - recognized the distinctive badge instantly after I fetched one back from the States. He also spent time in a MASH (he would never watch the programme, though) recovering from manchurian fever but there were rumours of germ warfare being practised - any truth in this? he also got a Purple heart as well but had it taken off him when he went to Kure on leave. Any info from anyone that fought with his units would be appreciated.
Thanks and also good luck and safe home to all those still serving, wherever they are deployed...

Hello, Bob,

My Aussie mates always spoke well of the KSLI, so your Dad must have been quite a man and your pride in him well justified.

There's never been any evidence that anyone used germ warfare in the KW. The germs floating around in the soggy holes in the ground where the troops lived during the trench warfare of the last two years didn't need any help.
To get just an idea of this, read my mate Alec Weaver's account:
Life In The Trenches
To get a more personal idea, look over Ron Cashman's photodoc:
Digger

Happy New Year to you and yours, Bob.

Bert
